The
1999 Season is year two for two new and world class courses in Nova
Scotia. After highly succesful freshman seasons, this pair are
welcome additions to the wonderful courses offerred for the locals.
For the tourist, they are two more wonderful reasons to make Atlantic
Canada your choice for top quality golf packages at great value.
May we introduce you to Bell Bay (photos this page)
and Osprey Ridge !
Bell Bay Golf Club
The
winner of "The Best New Course in Canada - 1998" by Golf Digest,
Bell Bay overlooks the Bras D'or Lakes in Baddeck, Cape Breton.
This Thomas McBroom designed masterpiece offers you
almost 50,000 square feet of teeing area with a water view of the
lands of Alexander Graham Bell. Not to be forgotten is Cape Breton's
own natural beauty. Its rolling mountains and ocean views
make driving to this course just as beautiful as playing it. Driving
up the tree-covered paved roadway, just off the middle of the town
you see a spectacular clubhouse which is literally engulfed by the
course it serves.
The
course is simply breathtaking. While every hole is spectacular
in its own right, the finest land was saved for the finishing holes.
The 15th is a long par four that requires a tough second shot. The
15th is followed by a second par four on the 16th hole. The last two
holes consist of a dangerous par three 17th and the finale
at the 18th is a superb par 5.
The
job of transforming a lot of spruce trees into a 121-acre golf
course began in late 1995. The anticipation for the opening of
the golf course was finally satisfied in the Fall of 1997 when the
first 9 holes were opened to its members on September 1st. The front
nine was played for little over a month, then on October 9th, 1998
the last nine holes were officially opened to the golfing public.
"IT
was really worth waiting for," said Scott MacAuly. "There isn't
one hole that's not spectacular. You can see the Bras d'Or Lakes,
Beinn Bhreagh, the landscape is gorgeous." MacAuly hopes that the
new golf course will help attract tourists to the island. Scott
MacAuly owns the Bell Bay Course along with Sandy Campbell, Bruce
Anderson, and Dr. Carly Chow.

The
6-million dollar course opened for its second full
season in mid May. Quickly gaining a reputation as one of
the best playing fields in Nova Scotia, Bell Bay is
completely soft-spiked. The clubhouse is a good companion
for the course as it is one of the finest around. Following
your game, you can treat yourself to a dining experience
which is second to none.
Bell
Bay
has the biggest practice facility east of Montreal,
providing the player with the opportunity to perfect his or
her game. The course is laid out with a yardage of 5,165
yards to 7,037, and is a par 72. This course
is guaranteed to give you plenty of reasons to keep returning
.
